Cheeba Primary School Management have thanked Adaptive Leadership for the continuous interventions on sexual reproductive health education being provide by the organisation.
The School Headteacher Kambela Milimo Mazoka, says the program has provided students with the knowledge and skills on how to avoid risk behaviours.
Mr. Mazoka said, the school has seen a reduction in teenage pregnancies since the introduction of the interventions, adding that no pregnancy has been recorded this year.
He said the school in 2021 recorded six cases of teen pregnancies while in 2022 only three were recorded.
Mr. Mazoka added that, due to the information being shared in the community, parents are now helping young girls see life not from marriage point of view.
“We withdraw a grade nine pupil from marriage last year. She managed to write her grade nine examinations and has proceeded to grade ten. This is an achievement for the school,” he said.
He further urged the organisation to continue enhancing the knowledge of learners on Sexual health education to help them make informed decisions.
Meanwhile Namalundu Ward Councilor Willard Mazyambe, who is also Adaptive Leadership Titandizane group Lead, said it has taken a lot of effort to change people’s minds when it comes to sexual reproductive health education, with many people taking it in an undesirable way because of diversities in culture and thoughts.
Councilor Mazyambe said, the community is slowly acknowledging the importance of sexual reproductive health education for adolescents and young people, as they are able to share information on various issues.
He further assured the community that the information being shared is age-appropriate and aimed at enhancing sexual reproductive health information to the adolescents and young people.
He was speaking during an intervention held at Cheeba Primary School on teenage pregnancy, where sport was were used as a tool to engage and educate young people about Sexual Reproductive Health.
At the end of the intervention, Kafue Gorge Manager Margaret Mulonda awarded the teams according to their performance.
